Preparations began in February 2011 when PP Barney O’Reilly and Rotarians Dr Yash Gureja, Ignatius Ndzingie and Graham Burt together with some members of the Diabetes Support Group at Princess Marina Hospital visited the village of Mookane.  The date of 21 May 2011 was set but had to be postponed at the last minute due to the 10 day strike by government workers. A new date of 10 September 2011 was agreed upon but this had to be postponed again due to the fact that the contact person and vacillator from Mookane village had an accident and broke his leg. He had, therefore, failed to mobilize the village volunteers and to make arrangement s for the Camp. A new date of 10 March 2012 was then set.

Rotarian Robert Lang was appointed the co-ordinator of the project. On the 3 March 2012, he together with PP Barney O’Reilly, Rotarians Dr Yash Gureja , Itamar Azoulay, Graham Burt took a trip to Mookane to finalize arrangements.

Between 6 and 7 am on Saturday morning, 17 Rotarians, 8 Rotaractors and 18 volunteers from Princess Marina Hospital set out for Mookane. On arrival at the school where the camp was being held we were joined by 18 volunteers from the clinic and from the local youth group. The volunteers set up the various classrooms where the various activities were to take place. Rotarians and Rotaractors were responsible for Registration, Height, Mass, Waist measurement, BMI calculation and Data capture. The Medical personnel were responsible for Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Counselling.

192 villagers were screened and each received a fruit juice and 2 apples which had been donated to Rotary by Trans Africa (Pty) Ltd. Those that were identified to have health issues were instructed to go to their clinic who would organize follow up examinations and treatment at the nearest hospital.
